ABOUT NIK-L-BLOK

What is a barrier cream?

A barrier cream is a topical cream that creates a temporary barrier between the skin and the harmful substances that may irritate the skin or cause an allergic reaction (contact dermatitis).

What is the difference between an active vs inactive barrier cream?

A regular inactive barrier cream relies solely on the physical barrier between the skin and the harmful substance for protection, while an active barrier cream combines a physical barrier with an active ingredient that binds to the harmful substances to prevent them from penetrating the skin and cause allergic reactions.

What is ”cosmeceuticals”?

Cosmeceuticals is a relatively new category within skincare. Through a combination of cosmetic and pharmaceutical ingredients, cosmeceutical products have biological and active ingredients in very high concentrations, enabling them to be as effective as medical products. This is what separates cosmeceuticals from your ordinary skincare products.

What is NIK-L-BLOK and how does it work?

NIK–L–BLOK is a patented, active barrier cream that blocks nickel ions from penetrating the skin. Through an innovative formula based on active ingredients, NIK-L-BLOK traps free nickel ions, effectively protecting your skin against nickel induced eczema and prevents sensitization leading to contact allergy. NIK-L-BLOK is the first patented product on the global market that enables individuals suffering from nickel allergy to come into everyday contact with metal objects without experiencing allergic reactions on their skin. NIK-L-BLOK is the result of many years of dermatological research and clinical testing. Its patented formula serves as a testament to its quality and innovation.

Why does NIK-L-BLOK work?

NIK-L-BLOK is based on a patented, chelating formula consisting of DTPA (active ingredient) and the chitosan (inactive ingredient). DTPA binds free nickel ions and actively blocks them from penetrating the skin when in contact with nickel. Chitosan forms a thin, transparent physical barrier on the skin that works as an added layer of protection.

Who should use NIK-L-BLOK?

If you have a contact allergy to nickel or cobalt (contact dermatitis), NIK-L-BLOK will protect your skin from allergic reactions caused by skin exposure to nickel or cobalt. NIK-L-BLOK does not prevent gastrointestinal allergic reactions from systemic nickel allergy, i.e. related to food intake. For more information on systemic nickel allergy, please see the ”NICKEL ALLERGY” section.

Does NIK-L-BLOK work for any other contact allergies?

NIK-L-BLOK is based on a formula that also protects the skin against cobalt.

USAGE DIRECTIONS

How do I use NIK-L-BLOK?

Apply a protective layer of NIK-L-BLOK to all skin areas exposed to metal contact 3-5 times a day. Always re-apply after contact with water and/or after perspiration. NIK-L-BLOK provides a temporary protection against nickel and what level of exposure leads to allergic reactions varies among individuals with nickel allergy. In this regard, NIK-L-BLOK can be compared to the dosage and effect of sunscreen, which is also individual and temporary.

How do I know if NIK-L-BLOK works?

Nickel allergy gives delayed reactions of up to 48 hours. It is therefore important that you apply NIK-L-BLOK preventively to protect your skin from allergic reactions due to contact with nickel. After approximately 5-7 days of regular usage you should be able to notice that the skin areas exposed to nickel are clear from allergic reactions such as eczema, blisters, dry patches, redness or itching. Continue to use NIK-L-BLOK with the same regularity to achieve maximum protection.

How often do I need to use NIK-L-BLOK for optimal protection?

NIK-L-BLOK provides your skin with a temporary protection against nickel and the level of nickel exposure leading to allergic reactions varies greatly among individuals. NIK-L-BLOK should therefore be used regularly according to you individuals needs. Apply the cream 3-5 times a day and always after contact with water and/or after perspiration to determine the optimal dosage and application regularity needed to match your individual threshold. Measure the effect of nickel exposure on your skin regularly to identify your optimal usage level.

How long does the protective barrier last?

NIK-L-BLOK forms a temporary protection against nickel and should therefore be applied regularly to achieve maximum protection, and always after contact with water and/or after perspiration. How long the barrier effect lasts after an application varies greatly among individuals due to level of nickel exposure and individual sensitivity. Our advise is to start with applying NIK-L-BLOK every 4 hours to test how your skin responds to the cream when exposed to nickel, adjusting your individual dosage and application frequency thereafter.

Does my skin need to be symptom-free in order to use NIK-L-BLOK?

NIK-L-BLOK does not work as a treatment for allergic breakouts, but as a proactive protection against skin reactions. NIK-L-BLOK should not be used on broken skin and we always recommend that your skin is clear from allergic breakouts before using the cream.

Can I use NIK-L-BLOK in body piercings?

NIK-L-BLOK is recommended for external use only. We do not recommend NIK-L-BLOK to be used on pierced skin since the effectiveness of the product decreases due to difficulties in covering the entire pierced skin surface.

Can my children use NIK-L-BLOK?

We have not performed any clinical trials or patient studies on children under the age of 18. We recommend that you consult your doctor before using NIK-L-BLOK for your children.

Can I use NIK-L-BLOK if I’m pregnant or breast feeding?

We have not performed any clinical trials or patient studies on pregnant or breast feeding individuals. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding we recommend that you consult your doctor before using NIK-L-BLOK.

Can I use NIK-L-BLOK on my eyelids?
